Let’s say you are new to the city and want to go to the bus stand. The next obvious way is to find directions. Now, let’s assume that you are not very good with GPS. So, what do you do? It’s obvious that you will ask the locals for directions. Now let’s see an example to understand this better. The same concept is used in the English language and we call these words Prepositions. Prepositions are words that tell us where exactly an object is. It tells us the place or position of this object. Let’s look at some examples to understand this better. The cat is under the chair. The ice cream is inside the fridge. Sita lives across the hall. Rachel sat next to Ross. Ishan put his Iphone inside his bag. If you notice the words in bold, they all indicate the position of the object in question. These words make it very clear as to where exactly the object is placed. This is how we use prepositions.
