Greetings and Introduction

Greetings are the first words or phrases you speak when you see a person.Greetings are an essential part of communication. They set the mood and tone for the whole conversation. How you greet someone lays the foundation for your bond with that person. In some cultures, especially in a country like India, it is considered disrespectful if one abstains from greeting another person. Of course there are different types and ways of greeting others depending on whether you have a relationship with them or not. And the greetings vary from culture to culture. Fundamentally, as we have said before, “Greetings are essential to good communication.” In the western culture, everyone greets everyone. In other words, they don’t need to know the person at all. If you are walking on a street and you are a complete stranger to them, they would still say ‘hello with a smile’ or ask you ‘how are you doing?’ To set up a warm and welcoming environment, one must come with thoughtful, positive, and creative greetings. Greetings are equivalent to someone knocking at your door and then entering. A warm greeting before the conversation could lighten up the mood of both the sender and receiver. It helps the other person to recognise and remember you well. Types of Greetings The greetings could be of two kinds: Formal Informal. Formal greetings Formal greetings include greetings that are polite and professional. They can convey in a formal tone with a slight smile. These are the greetings one can use while interacting in the workspace with seniors and people older in age. These greetings are also fit for people with whom the speaker is not very familiar. Examples: Start of the day or when you first see the person in your office or a professional environment: "Hello! How are you?" “Good morning” “How is it going?” When you leave the office or during the end of a work day: “Have a great night.” “Good night.” “Drive safe.” “See you tomorrow.” Informal greetings Informal greetings are casual, funny, and conversational. They do not need any specific tone or body language. The informal greetings are suitable for one's friends, family, and close circle. Examples: Hey, Friends What's Up, Buddies? “How do you do?” It must be noted that your greeting needs to align with the time. The speaker must check the time and frame their greeting accordingly. You can not wish Good Morning afternoon, and you can greet people with good afternoon till 04:00 PM. After that, you should say good evening. One needs to introduce themselves at all stages of life in both formal and informal situations. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an attractive and pleasing introduction for oneself. You should introduce yourself, keeping the people and place in mind. For example, including your pet's name in a formal discussion is unnecessary.
